Maria nam mijn hand in de hare. "Candice, ben je eenzaam?" Ik keek Maria geschokt aan. Is deze gekke vrouw nu haar verstand verloren? Daarbuiten vroeg ze me of ik eenzaam ben? Zie ik eruit alsof ik eenzaam ben voor haar?

Als ik niet zo veel van haar zoon hield en alles zou opgeven om weer bij hem te zijn en zijn vrouw te worden, zou ik mijn tijd nu niet aan haar verspillen. Wat denkt ze wel niet dat ze is? Ze vroeg me of ik eenzaam ben?
