Althans, niet op de manier waarop ik het doe.

Ik word weer overvallen door ontzag als we de eetzaal binnenlopen. Mijn hoofd draait om en neemt het prachtige uitzicht in me op van ronde tafels die zijn opgesteld in wat eruitziet als een verdomde kathedraal. De plafonds van vier verdiepingen hoog bogen hoog boven ons, schaduwen verhullen het licht van de kroonluchters en de ramen van drie verdiepingen hoog die de westelijke muur bekleden, kunnen de hoeken niet bereiken.

"Wow, dit is de ontbijtzaal?" mompel ik, enigszins geschokt als Rafe ons naar een lege tafel met acht stoelen brengt en ons laat zitten. Ik glimlach als ik tientallen en tientallen jonge mannen in cadettenzwart aan hun eigen tafel zie, kletsend met vrienden of lezend in boeken. Dit zijn gevorderde studenten - blijkbaar ontbijten we allemaal samen.
